Sweet and Spicy Baked Cauliflower
Description
Cauliflower florets are evenly cut to ensure consistent roasting, then lightly sprayed with cooking oil and seasoned with garlic salt, salt, and pepper before baking at 400°F until edges begin to brown. Meanwhile, a sauce is prepared on the stovetop by combining honey, minced garlic, low sodium soy sauce (or coconut aminos), sriracha, hoisin sauce, and gluten-free flour or cornstarch to thicken it over medium heat.
Once the cauliflower is roasted and slightly cooled, it is tossed thoroughly in the thickened sweet-spicy sauce so each floret is coated. The final touches of sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds add a fresh and nutty contrast to the rich sauce. This dish combines tender vegetables with a sticky, flavorful glaze.
Soaking the cauliflower in salted water beforehand helps remove debris, and cutting florets uniformly aids even cooking. Using cornstarch is recommended for the best sauce consistency. For crispier texture, air frying is an alternative method. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to five days.
Ingredients
- 1 Large cauliflower cut into bite-sized florets, head
- cooking oil spray
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon green onions sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
For the Sweet and Spicy Sticky Sauce:
- ¼ Cup honey
- 2 garlic minced, cloves
- ¼ Cup soy sauce low sodium or coconut amino
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon gluten-free flour or cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking tray with parchment pepper.
- Arrange the 1 Large Head Cauliflower florets in a single layer onto the prepared baking tray and spray with Cooking Oil Spray. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon Garlic Salt, Salt and pepper, to taste, and using your hands, toss well to coat.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until it starts to brown on the edges. While cauliflower is cooking, combine all the sauce ingredients ( ¼ Cup Honey, 2 Garlic Cloves (minced), ¼ Cup Low sodium soy sauce or coconut amino, 1 tablespoon Sriracha, 1 tablespoon Hoisin Sauce, and 1 teaspoon Gluten-free flour or cornstarch ) into a small saucepan and whisk until well incorporated.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir frequently, until sauce thickens about 4-5 minutes.
- Once the cauliflower has finished baking, remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes.
- Pour the sauce over and toss until fully coated. Top with 1 tablespoon Green Onions (sliced) and 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds and enjoy!
Notes
- Soak cauliflower in salted water before cooking to remove debris effectively.
- Cut florets into uniform sizes to ensure even roasting in the oven.
- Use cornstarch instead of gluten-free flour for better sauce thickening.
- For crispier results, consider air-frying the cauliflower following air fryer guidelines.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.
