Sweet Chili Chicken
Description
Sweet Chili Chicken uses boneless, skinless chicken breast pieces dipped in beaten eggs seasoned with salt and pepper, then coated with a mixture of all-purpose flour and cornstarch to create a crisp exterior once fried. The chicken pieces are fried in oil heated to 350°F until they turn golden brown. After frying, the chicken is tossed with sweet chili sauce, adding a sweet and mildly spicy glaze. The dish is garnished with sliced green onions to add a fresh note.
The coating delivers a crunchy texture initially, which softens once coated in the sauce, balancing crispness and moistness. Cooking in small batches ensures even frying and proper oil temperature control. The dish is ready to serve immediately to preserve texture and flavor.
Sweet Chili Chicken is suitable for serving as a main dish alongside rice or noodles or as an appetizer. It pairs well with simple sides that complement but don't overpower the sweet chili flavor.
The recipe notes recommend using a thermometer to maintain the oil temperature for effective frying. Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container and reheated gently on the stovetop, acknowledging the coating will soften upon reheating, especially if stored with the sauce.
