Sweet Chili Shrimp
Description
Beginning with clean, shelled, deveined shrimp, the shrimp are patted dry and seasoned with salt and pepper. They are pan-seared in neutral cooking oil to develop a slight browning without overcooking. Garlic is then sautéed separately to release its aroma and cook off raw flavor. The shrimp returns to the pan where the combined sauce of Thai sweet chili sauce, chili garlic sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt is added. Stirring ensures the shrimp is well coated and heated through in the glossy sauce. The dish is finished with fresh cilantro or parsley, lending a bright herbaceous note.
If chili garlic sauce is unavailable, substituting with about half a teaspoon of Sriracha can provide a similar heat profile. The resulting dish balances sweet, spicy, and sour elements with tender shrimp and aromatic garlic, suitable for serving immediately as a main or appetizer.
