Sweet potato, Kale and Black Bean Patties for Babies and Toddlers

These sweet potato, kale, and black bean patties offer a gentle and nutritious finger food designed without added salt for babies and toddlers. The patties combine cooked sweet potato and steamed kale with black beans, egg, panko bread crumbs, and paprika to form a soft yet shaped patty that can be cooked in olive oil. Their mild seasoning and tender texture make them suitable for young children beginning to explore solid foods.

Description

This recipe produces patties combining the natural sweetness of cooked sweet potato, tender steamed kale, and protein-rich black beans, bound together with egg and panko bread crumbs for structure. Paprika adds a mild, subtle seasoning without overwhelming young palates. The use of olive oil for cooking keeps the patties moist while allowing a light browning on the outside. The patties are formed into eight equal portions, making them appropriately sized for toddlers.

The preparation includes cooking the sweet potato by pressure cooker, oven, or microwave, steaming kale until tender, and squeezing out excess moisture. The kale and sweet potato are processed finely to ensure an even texture suitable for young children. Mixing with black beans and the binding ingredients creates a dough that holds together during cooking.

These patties are ideal as a finger food or part of a toddler meal, serving both nutritional needs and the developmental stage of eating. The omission of added salt suits the dietary recommendations for babies and toddlers. For older children or adults, salt can be added to taste. Cooking methods and ingredient preps keep this recipe accessible and adaptable for home cooking focused on child feeding.
