Taco Bake
Description
This Taco Bake begins by cooking lean ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic, building foundational savory flavors. The addition of taco seasoning blends spices for the classic taco profile. Mixing in canned diced tomatoes with their juice and refried beans creates a thick, flavorful sauce that contrasts the crunchy crushed tortilla chips placed in the baking dish.
The crushed chips form a crispy base that soaks in some moisture but retains texture, making each bite contrast between crunch and creamy meat filling. Cheddar cheese melts on top during the brief baking period, adding richness and a gooey topping layer.
The recipe suggests serving with fresh toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomato, sour cream, and olives, allowing for customizable bites. This layered casserole works well as a comforting weeknight dinner with familiar Tex-Mex ingredients.
