Taco Seasoning
Description
The seasoning mix consists of dried chili powder and paprika giving warmth and color; oregano and coriander for herbal notes; garlic and onion powders providing depth; cumin adding earthiness; and a touch of cayenne for gentle heat. Salt and black pepper round out the flavor profile. Cornstarch helps ensure it blends well and can slightly thicken meat juices when cooked.
To use, the seasoning is stirred into cooked, browned ground beef sautéed with minced garlic, then simmered briefly to develop the flavors. The meat is spooned into soft flour tortillas and topped with shredded cheddar, chopped tomatoes, and shredded iceberg lettuce for textural contrast and freshness.
Making this seasoning at home allows control over spices and salt levels compared to prepackaged mixes. It can be stored in an airtight container, ready to use in homemade taco recipes or other dishes requiring a similar flavor base.
