Tangerine Sorbet

Tangerine Sorbet is a refreshing frozen dessert made by pureeing fully frozen peeled tangerine segments into a smooth, creamy texture. The natural bright citrus flavor shines through, and optional sweetness can be added to balance the tartness. This sorbet serves as a light, cool treat, especially enjoyed garnished with dark chocolate shavings.

Description

This Tangerine Sorbet recipe relies on fresh, seedless tangerines peeled and separated into segments, with all white pith and any seeds removed for purity of flavor. The segments are frozen solid over several hours to ensure proper texture. Frozen tangerines are then processed in a food processor or high-powered blender until they transform from crumbly bits into a smooth, creamy sorbet consistency.

The method requires no added fat or dairy, resulting in a naturally bright, slightly tart sorbet that showcases the fruit’s fresh flavor. Sweeteners like honey, agave, or maple syrup can be added before freezing if a sweeter dessert is desired. Serving the sorbet as is provides a pure citrus experience, while dark chocolate shavings add a complementary bitter-sweet contrast and some texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 lbs tangerines seedless - make sure you choose seedless

Instructions

  1. Peel the tangerines, and separate the pieces. Arrange them on a baking sheet, remove any white stringy pieces from the skin, and also if you notice any seeds.
  2. After that, freeze the segments for a few hours, 4-6 hours, to make sure they are fully frozen.
  3. When ready to make the sorbet, add the frozen segments to a food processor or high-powered blender.
  4. Pulse for a few minutes, until you go from a dry and crumbly mixture to a smooth and creamy mixture.
  5. If you want the sorbet sweeter, add some honey, agave, or maple syrup.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container, cover it, and store it in the freezer.
  7. Serve it as is or with some dark chocolate shavings on top.
