Taylor Swift Cookies

Taylor Swift Cookies combine a blend of fats and sugars with the distinctive flavor of chai tea spices folded into the dough. When baked to a soft finish, they develop a tender crumb with gentle spice tones. The optional eggnog icing adds a creamy, spiced sweetness that complements the chai-infused cookie base. These cookies offer a textured, sweet flavor profile ideal for enjoying with tea or as a holiday treat.

Description

Taylor Swift Cookies feature a dough made with butter, vegetable oil, sugar, powdered sugar, and egg, enhanced by a chai tea bag's aromatic spices incorporated into the flour mixture. The dough is chilled before baking at 350°F for about nine minutes until just set, ensuring a soft center. Once cooled, they can be topped with an eggnog-based icing spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon, adding richness and a seasonal twist. This two-component recipe results in cookies with a tender, flavorful crumb and a complementary spiced glaze.

The chai tea in the dough gives a subtle, warm spice that distinguishes these cookies from typical sugar cookies. The dual use of sugar and powdered sugar creates a balanced sweetness with a slight crunch on the exterior. Baking carefully to avoid overbaking maintains moistness, and the icing offers an optional creamy-sweet finish that enhances the seasonal flavor profile.

These cookies are suitable for holiday gatherings or whenever a softly spiced, sweet cookie is desired. The recipe allows flexibility with the icing, which can be omitted or substituted with a sprinkle of sugar before baking. The addition of chai or homemade spice blend adds a unique flair to a classic cookie dough.

The recipe can be simplified by using a ready sugar cookie mix plus the included chai tea bag for flavor infusion. The icing is optional; cookies bake well uniced and can be sprinkled with white sugar before baking for a subtle sweetness. If black chai tea is unavailable or unwanted, substitute with a homemade spice mix of cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon in measured teaspoons.Spice mix leftover from making the cookies is versatile and can be used in other dishes like overnight oats, pudding, or hot chocolate.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 cup butter room temperature, unsalted
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Chai tea tea bag

For the Eggnog Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons eggnog or whole milk

Instructions

  1. Add the butter to the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix until butter is light and fluffy. Then add oil and mix until fully combined.
  2. Add sugar, powdered sugar, egg, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, add flour, baking soda, salt, and the contents of the chai tea bag. Whisk until combined.
  4. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients while mixing on medium speed. Mix until dough forms and all ingredients are fully incorporated. You may have to scrape the sides of the bowl. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350. Remove dough from the fridge and scoop onto a baking sheet either covered with parchment paper or sprayed with cooking spray.
  6. Bake for 9 minutes. Do not over-bake. The cookies will continue to cook on the pan once you pull them out.
  7. To make the icing, mix powdered sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and eggnog. Stir with a fork until combined.
  8. Let cookies cool and then drizzle icing over the top of each cookie.

Notes

  • Use a premade sugar cookie mix with chai tea for a quicker version, as suggested by Taylor Swift.
  • The eggnog icing adds a complementary seasonal flavor but is optional; uniced cookies can be topped with white sugar before baking.
  • Substitute the chai tea bag with a custom spice blend combining cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon for similar flavor.
  • Leftover spice mix can flavor other recipes like overnight oats, chia pudding, or hot chocolate.
