Instructions

Make Teriyaki Sauce

  1. Whisk together all ingredients for teriyaki sauce in small saucepan, mixing it well. Cook on medium heat, stirring continuously, until it just starts to reach a boil. Taste and add a bit more sugar if you want it sweeter.  Remove from heat, stir again, and set aside until ready to use.

For Burgers

  1. Saute mushrooms in 2 tbsp butter, adding a pinch of salt and pepper while cooking. Cook until just until soft; don't overcook  Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Grease and preheat grill to medium-high heat. Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Shape ground beef into thick patties. Grill beef patties to medium done, or to your liking.
  3. Grill pineapples until grill marks appear.
  4. Assemble your teriyaki burger, and generously pour on the teriyaki sauce – it is what makes this burger!

Notes

  • Every brand of teriyaki sauce will have a slightly different flavor, but like Kikkoman teriyaki sauce.
  • It's important that cornstarch is always fully dissolved, with no white streaks left, prior to using. If it's not completely dissolved, there may be lumps in the sauce.
  • Homemade teriyaki sauce can be stored for a long time, up to 2 weeks, in airtight container in fridge,. Once made, it can be used for teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, teriyaki salmon, etc.
