Texas Sheet Cake

Texas Sheet Cake features a moist cocoa-flavored cake baked in a large pan, topped with a rich, glossy chocolate frosting. The combination of butter, cocoa, and sour cream in the batter ensures a tender crumb and deep chocolate taste, while the warm frosting spreads easily on the hot cake for a smooth finish. This sheet cake is designed to serve a crowd and is commonly enjoyed as a dessert or at gatherings.

Description

The Texas Sheet Cake blends butter, water, cocoa powder, sugar, flour, and sour cream to create a chocolate cake batter that is dense but tender. Using baking soda helps the cake rise adequately while the sour cream adds moisture and a slight tang, balancing the sweetness. The batter is baked evenly in a large 12x18 cookie sheet, resulting in a thin cake layer with a rich chocolate flavor.

Once baked, a smooth chocolate frosting made of butter, cocoa, milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla is poured on warm. The frosting melts slightly into the cake surface, creating a glossy and creamy topping. This cake can be served warm or allowed to cool, and ice cream can be paired with it as an optional accompaniment to enhance the dessert experience.
