The Best Cut Out Sugar Cookie Recipe

The Best Cut Out Sugar Cookie Recipe forms a pliable dough from flour, baking powder, butter, eggs, sugar, and extracts, rolled and chilled before being cut into shapes. These cookies bake to a tender texture with lightly golden edges, ideal for decorating with icing. The cold butter and quick chilling help maintain shape and texture during baking, making them suitable for holiday or special occasion cookie cutters.

Description

This sugar cookie recipe blends all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cold unsalted butter with eggs and almond and vanilla extracts to create a dough that is rolled out and chilled for shape retention. The dough is rolled to a quarter-inch thickness and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters, then frozen briefly before baking to maintain form.

Baking at 350°F for 7 to 8 minutes yields cookies that are just turning golden at the edges while remaining soft and chewy inside. The cold butter and chilling step provide a clean cut and minimal spreading, essential for decorated cut-out cookies.

After cooling fully, these cookies can be decorated with icing of choice, making them a traditional choice for festive occasions. The recipe yields classic sugar cookies with balanced sweetness and buttery flavor.
