The best easy stir fry sauce
Description
The best easy stir fry sauce combines several layers of flavor: salty and umami from soy sauce, acidity and brightness from rice vinegar, sweetness from honey, and mild heat from chili flakes. Aromatic garlic and ginger add pungency and warmth, complemented by the freshness of finely chopped spring onions.
Cornstarch dissolves in the liquid mix and during cooking thickens the sauce, giving it a shiny, clingy texture that enhances vegetables or meats in a stir fry. Lemon juice adds a subtle citrus note to balance flavors.
This sauce is versatile and quick to make, simply mixed together and poured over hot stir-fried ingredients, cooking for just a few minutes until the sauce thickens evenly to coat everything well.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- 1 tsp chilli flakes or red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp corn starch or cornflour
- 2 tsp honey or sugar
- 1 tsp garlic
- ½ tsp ginger
- ¼ cup spring onion finely chopped, or green onions
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix until well combined.
- Pour over stir fry and cook, stirring, for 3-5 minutes until the sauce is thick and glossy, clinging to the stir fry ingredients.
