The Best Green Bean Casserole
Description
This casserole features green beans blanched until just tender then layered in a baking dish. A smooth sauce is crafted by cooking butter and garlic, whisking in flour to form a roux, and slowly adding chicken broth and half-and-half to create a creamy base seasoned with salt and pepper. Pouring this over the beans coats them in a rich, velvety sauce.
Sprinkling fried onions on top before baking adds a crispy texture contrast and savory flavor. Baking at 375°F melds the flavors and heats the dish through, while covering the casserole with foil toward the end prevents the onions from burning.
After baking, resting the casserole allows the sauce to thicken slightly, enhancing the dish’s creamy texture. This casserole is a classic side dish that pairs well with holiday meals or weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds Green bean rinsed, trimmed then halved, fresh

- Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes. *Place a piece of tinfoil over the top the last 10 minutes to prevent onions from burning.*
