Toast Hawaii
Description
Toast Hawaii is prepared by toasting bread slices and then layering each with butter, ham, a pineapple ring, and a slice of Emmental or similar cheese. Baking the assembled slices melts the cheese and melds the flavors, while the pineapple adds a juicy sweetness contrasting the savory ham and rich cheese. Adding a maraschino cherry or a dab of fruit preserves on top of the pineapple ring provides a final touch of sweetness and color.
This dish is served immediately from the oven when the cheese is melted and creamy. Toast Hawaii works well as a snack, light lunch, or casual meal with a balance of textures from the melted cheese, tender ham, and juicy pineapple.
