Toasted Sesame Ginger Salmon

Toasted Sesame Ginger Salmon offers a balanced flavor profile combining the rich fattiness of salmon with a marinade of olive oil, toasted sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and soy. Broiling cooks the fish quickly, yielding a tender and flaky texture with a caramelized surface enhanced by a honey sesame ginger glaze. The dish is garnished with green onions and toasted sesame seeds which add crunch and freshness. This preparation suits a main course served alongside steamed vegetables or rice.

Description

Toasted Sesame Ginger Salmon presents a broiled salmon prepared with a marinade of olive oil, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, grated garlic, and fresh ginger. The fish absorbs these savory and slightly sweet flavors during the 30-minute marination. Cooking under a hot broiler allows the salmon to develop a lightly crisped exterior while maintaining a moist, flaky interior.

The accompanying glaze, made from honey, sesame oil, soy sauce, and grated ginger, is spooned over the cooked salmon to impart a glossy finish and deepen the sesame and ginger notes. Toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions provide additional texture and a mild pungency that complements the fish.

This salmon works well as a feature on a dinner plate, accompanied by neutral sides like rice or steamed greens that balance its distinctive flavor. The recipe’s components highlight a harmonious use of sesame and ginger, offering a dish that is flavorful without relying on heavy sauces or complicated techniques.

sesame ginger honey glaze

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil toasted
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger freshly grated
  • 1/2 teaspoons sesame seeds toasted

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack over top. Spray the rack with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl or baking dish, combine olive oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, vinegar, brown sugar and whisk well until combined. Add salmon to the dish or place everything in a ziplock bag, then refrigerate and marinate for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the broiler in your oven. (Or preheat your grill, etc if you prefer to use something else.)
  4. Remove salmon with kitchen tongs and place directly on the wire rack. Sprinkle with a little bit of salt and pepper, then place directly under the broiler. Cook for 10-12 minutes, depending on the salmon’s thickness (our’s was just about an inch thick), until opaque and easily flakable with a fork. You can flip the salmon halfway through cooking if desired.
  5. Remove and serve immediately, with a sprinkling of toasted sesame seeds, green onions and the glaze below.
