Traditional Pumpkin Pie
Description
This pumpkin pie recipe uses pumpkin puree combined with evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, and a blend of traditional autumn spices for a classic custard filling. The smooth mixture is poured into an unbaked pie crust and baked initially at high heat for a short period to set the filling edges, then at a lower temperature to gently cook through without cracking. A clean toothpick test confirms doneness.
The spices—cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt—are selected to complement the earthiness of the pumpkin and add warmth. After baking and cooling, the pie is topped with whipped cream that is beaten to stiff peaks, sweetened, and flavored with vanilla or other extracts such as almond or amaretto, creating a light contrast to the dense filling.
This pie works well for holiday meals or any occasion needing a traditional dessert with balanced spice and a creamy texture. The crust adds a crisp, buttery contrast to the smooth pumpkin center, providing the classic pie experience.
Consider garnishing the pie with chopped nuts or a drizzle of honey on the whipped topping for additional texture and sweetness if desired.
