Trini Style Spicy Pepper Shrimp

Trini Style Spicy Pepper Shrimp is a vibrant dish featuring shrimp cooked with a bold blend of Scotch bonnet peppers, garlic, ginger, green seasoning, and herbs such as thyme and pimento. The shrimp are coated with cornstarch and cooked with a savory, tangy sauce including ketchup, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce, resulting in a spicy, aromatic entrée with tender shrimp and a flavorful sauce that highlights Caribbean flavors.

Description

This recipe involves seasoning peeled shrimp with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper for a light coating before cooking. Vegetables including diced onion, carrot, bell pepper, and the key hot Scotch bonnet peppers are sautéed to soften but not brown. Aromatics garlic, ginger, and green seasoning are added to build flavor depth. A sauce formed from ketchup, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lime juice, thyme, and pimento peppers is simmered to combine, introducing sweetness, acidity, and herbal notes.

The shrimp are then cooked at high heat in this sauce until opaque and tender, coated evenly to develop an intense spicy and savory profile. The dish can be garnished with green onions or chives for freshness and color.

Trini Style Spicy Pepper Shrimp makes for a lively main course that can be served with rice or bread to balance its heat and complex flavor layers. The process of simmering the sauce before adding shrimp allows flavors to meld and intensify.
