Tuna Noodle Casserole

Tuna Noodle Casserole combines tender egg noodles with a creamy cheese sauce enhanced with garlic, shallots, and Dijon mustard. Flaked tuna and sweet green peas add protein and freshness, while a crunchy topping of panko, Parmesan, lemon zest, and olive oil provides textural contrast. Baked until golden and bubbly, the casserole offers a comforting and savory meal featuring a rich, cheesy flavor balanced by the brightness of lemon zest.

Description

This Tuna Noodle Casserole begins with boiled wide egg noodles drained and set aside. A sauce is created by sautéing minced garlic and diced shallots in butter until fragrant, then whisking in flour to form a roux. Half and half and Dijon mustard are added and cooked until slightly thickened, followed by shredded sharp white cheddar cheese stirred in until smooth. The sauce coats the noodles, canned drained tuna, and rinsed frozen green peas. Salt and pepper season the mixture to taste. The casserole is topped with a mixture of panko breadcrumbs, freshly grated Parmesan, lemon zest, and olive oil for a bright, crispy topping. Baking at 400°F until the topping is golden and the dish is bubbly creates a creamy main course with textural contrast. Garnishing with chopped fresh chives adds a mild onion note.
