Turkey a la King

Turkey a la King is a creamy savory dish served in puff pastry shells, combining sautéed vegetables, mushrooms, and diced turkey in a thickened sauce seasoned with poultry herbs. The dish is assembled by filling baked puff pastry cases with the sauce and garnished with fresh parsley, offering a comforting blend of textures and flavors. This preparation repurposes cooked turkey into a rich, flavorful entrée suited for a special meal or holiday buffet.

Description

The Turkey a la King recipe involves quickly baking ready puff pastry shells and preparing a sauce by sautéing diced onion, carrot, celery with leaves, and mushrooms until tender. Flour is added to the mixture and cooked briefly before gradually whisking in chicken broth to create a smooth, thickened base. Heavy cream and a blend of seasonings including poultry seasoning, celery salt, thyme, salt, and pepper are stirred in to enrich the sauce. Diced cooked turkey and frozen peas are incorporated last, heated gently to combine flavors. The puff pastry shells are hollowed at the center and filled generously with the creamy turkey and vegetable mixture. The reserved pastry centers can be placed atop or served alongside. Garnishing with fresh parsley adds a touch of brightness. This dish reimagines leftover turkey into an elegant meal, balancing silky sauce and crisp pastry textures.
