Turkey Burger Recipe
Description
The Turkey Burger Recipe blends ground turkey with breadcrumbs, dried onion flakes, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, and kosher salt to form flavorful patties. Cooking on a medium-low heat skillet or grill helps brown the exterior without overcooking the lean meat, which can dry quickly. The instructions emphasize making the patties around half an inch thick to ensure thorough cooking to a safe temperature of 165°F.
Serving the burgers on toasted buns with classic toppings such as sliced tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles, and optional cheese creates a familiar handheld meal. The recipe also offers an air fryer alternative, cooking the patties at 400°F for about 4-5 minutes per side, which can provide a convenient faster method with less oil.
Tips included address common issues like turkey burgers sticking to the grill and advise to preheat and oil the grilling surface well. Using a spatula carefully when flipping helps keep the patties intact. Overall, the recipe is practical for making juicy turkey burgers while managing their lean texture.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey 93% lean
- cheese
- 1/4 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs or gluten-free breadcrumbs, seasoned
- tomato sliced
- 1/4 cup dried onion flakes
- red onion sliced
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- iceberg lettuce
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- pickles sliced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ketchup
- mustard
- 1 clove garlic (grated)
- onion caramelized
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- avocado
- olive oil spray form
- 4 burger buns
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, dried onion flakes, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and salt.
- Heat a large nonstick skillet on medium-low heat. When hot, lightly spray oil.
- Clean grill well before cooking and spray with oil spray to prevent sticking.
- Make 4 equal patties, press down to flatten so they are not too thick, about 1/2 inch thick so they cook in the center.
- Add burgers to the pan and reduce the heat to low. Cook 4 to 5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Keep an eye on the bottom to prevent burning and to make sure the burgers are cooked all the way through.
- Cook the burgers on medium heat about 5 minutes on each side, or until no longer pink in the center and reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
- While the burgers are cooking, prepare your buns and toppings. Toast the buns if you like.
- Air Fryer Option: Air fry turkey burgers 400F about 4 to 5 minutes on each side.
- When the burgers are done, place them on the buns, add your desired toppings, and serve immediately.
Notes
- Preheat and oil the grill grates to create a non-stick surface before cooking turkey burgers.
- Allow burgers to cook undisturbed for 5-6 minutes to enable easy flipping and prevent sticking or breaking.
- Use a wide spatula to fully support the patties when flipping to keep them from falling apart.
- Ensure turkey burgers reach an internal temperature of 165°F for safety.
