Turkey Tacos
Description
Turkey Tacos feature ground lean turkey cooked with onion and garlic, then simmered in a mix of tomato sauce and water enriched with ground chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Adding mild green chiles contributes a gentle heat and extra dimension. The turkey mixture is cooked until thickened and well-seasoned. The filling is served warm inside soft corn or flour tortillas. Customary toppings such as shredded cheese, lettuce, sour cream or Greek yogurt, guacamole or avocado slices, diced tomatoes, salsa or pico de gallo, fresh cilantro, and lime wedges are added to each taco to complement and balance the flavors and textures.
The cooking involves browning the turkey and onions first, then simmering with spices and tomato sauce to develop a rich and slightly spicy filling. The green chiles are folded in at the end to preserve their mild heat and texture without overpowering. Assembled tacos offer a combination of savory meat, fresh, creamy, and tangy toppings for an enjoyable handheld meal.
