Turkey Tacos
Description
The recipe calls for browning ground turkey with finely chopped onions before adding a carefully measured blend of chili powder, garlic and onion powders, oregano, smoked paprika, cumin, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. The mixture is simmered with tomato sauce and water to thicken the sauce and combine flavors, resulting in a moist, slightly saucy taco filling.
Serving the seasoned turkey in small flour tortillas allows for individual customization with typical taco toppings such as lettuce, avocado slices, diced tomatoes, red onion, and cheese. The spice combination offers warmth and mild heat without overwhelming the turkey’s natural flavor.
Practical tips include preparing extra spice mix for future use and storing cooked taco meat in the refrigerator for up to three days or freezing for extended storage. This makes the filling convenient for quick meals and easy to portion.
