Turkish Manti

Turkish Manti are small handmade dumplings filled with a spiced ground beef mixture and served with garlic yogurt and a butter-mint-chili sauce. The dough is rolled thin and cut into small squares, each folded into a pouch around the filling. Cooking involves boiling until they float, resulting in tender dough encasing flavorful meat, complemented by tangy yogurt and fragrant sauce.

Description

The dough is prepared from flour, lukewarm water, an egg, and salt, kneaded until smooth, then rested. The filling combines lean ground beef with grated onion, black pepper, chili flakes, and salt, giving a seasoned interior. The dough is rolled thin and sliced into small squares, each filled with a small amount of beef mixture and folded into a pouch shape.

Cooking involves boiling the dumplings in batches until they float, about 4 to 5 minutes, then removed with a slotted spoon. They are traditionally served topped with a mixture of Greek yogurt, crushed garlic, and water, seasoned with salt. A sauce made by melting butter with dried mint and chili flakes is drizzled over, adding richness and spice.

This dish is a tender, savory dumpling balancing soft dough, spiced filling, and creamy yogurt with a warm, aromatic butter sauce. It can serve as a satisfying main dish or appetizer.
