Turmeric Rice
Description
This turmeric rice starts by rinsing jasmine rice to remove excess starch. The rice is then sautéed with finely diced onion and minced garlic in a combination of butter and olive oil, which enhances flavor and aroma. Turmeric is added to impart its distinctive golden color and mild earthy taste. Chicken broth and a bay leaf provide a savory cooking liquid that infuses the rice as it simmers. The rice is cooked covered until the liquid is fully absorbed, then rested and fluffed to yield a light, fluffy texture with tender grains.
The resulting turmeric rice is visually appealing and offers a subtle seasoning that complements many dishes without overpowering them. It can pair well with meats, vegetables, or stews.
