Turmeric Rice

Report
Turmeric Rice is a fragrant side dish combining basmati rice with ground turmeric and garlic powder, cooked in vegetable stock. The turmeric imparts a warm yellow color and subtle earthy flavor, while the garlic powder adds mild savory notes. The rice is simmered gently and allowed to rest, resulting in fluffy grains with vibrant taste.

Description

This Turmeric Rice recipe starts by rinsing basmati rice well to remove starch before cooking. The rice is combined with ground turmeric and garlic powder, which infuse color and flavor during cooking. Cooking in vegetable stock instead of water enriches the taste. After bringing the mixture to a boil, it is simmered covered until the rice is tender. Letting it rest covered off the heat allows the grains to finish absorbing moisture and become fluffy.

The rice pairs well with various main dishes, especially those with Indian or Southeast Asian influences, adding both visual appeal and mild spice.

Additional ingredients like finely diced shallots, fresh garlic, or mixed vegetables (peas, sweetcorn, carrots) can be added during the last minutes of cooking for more texture and flavor. Red chili flakes sprinkled before serving add heat as desired.

Store leftover rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days and reheat thoroughly before serving.
