Turtle Brownies

Turtle Brownies combine a chocolate cake base with melted caramel, sweetened condensed milk, and pecans. Layers of batter, caramel, chocolate chips, and nuts bake together to form a rich, chewy dessert with a gooey caramel center and nutty crunch.

Description

This recipe for Turtle Brownies starts by melting caramel with sweetened condensed milk to create a luscious caramel sauce. The dry chocolate cake mix is combined with melted butter, additional sweetened condensed milk, and chopped pecans to form a thick batter. Half of this batter is baked briefly, then topped with chocolate chips, more pecans, and the caramel mixture. The remaining batter is pressed over the caramel layer, topped with extra chocolate chips, and baked again. The result is a multi-layered dessert featuring a moist chocolate cake texture with a soft caramel core and crunchy pecans dispersed throughout.

The brownies are best cooled completely in the pan to allow the layers to set, making them easier to cut into squares. This dessert offers a combination of textures and rich flavors that meld together during baking.

  2. Unwrap the caramels and melt them with 7 ounces of sweetened condensed milk in a pan on the stovetop or in a bowl in the microwave.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the remaining sweetened condensed milk with the melted butter, dry cake mix, and 1/2 cup pecans. The batter will be thick.
