Union Station Cookies

Union Station Cookies are a rich, oatmeal-based treat blending buttery dough with melted Hershey’s chocolate, chopped nuts, and chocolate chips. The use of powdered oatmeal adds unique texture and chewiness, while baking them at a high temperature for a short time yields a tender cookie with a slightly crisp edge, ideal for snacking.

Description

This cookie recipe starts by creaming together butter and both brown and white sugars for balanced sweetness and moisture. Eggs and vanilla add richness and flavor. Dry ingredients consist of flour, powdered oatmeal made by blending rolled oats, salt, and baking powder, contributing to a chewy texture distinctive from traditional oatmeal cookies.

The dough includes melted chocolate, chopped nuts, and chocolate chips, adding layers of chocolate and crunch. Small dough portions are scooped onto ungreased baking sheets and baked at 375°F for about 8 minutes, resulting in cookies that are lightly golden with soft, tender centers and chewy edges.

The combination of powdered oats and melted chocolate distinguishes these cookies, giving a pleasing texture contrast and deep chocolate flavor. They make a good snack or dessert when you want a cookie with more texture complexity than basic chocolate chip.
