Valentine's Day White Chocolate Chex Mix
Description
This sweet snack mix starts by combining crunchy Chex and Cheerios cereals with salty pretzel twists, roasted salted peanuts, festive themed M&M’s, and red velvet shortbread-style cookies. White chocolate chips are carefully melted then drizzled over the mixture to coat the pieces lightly, allowing the sprinkled Valentine-themed decorations to adhere before the chocolate sets.
The final mix offers a sweet and salty contrast, blending the smooth creaminess of white chocolate with the crunch of cereals and pretzels, the softness of cookies, and occasional nutty bites. Stirring or tossing quickly before the chocolate fully hardens ensures even coating and distribution of ingredients.
This snack is festive for Valentine’s Day gatherings or gifting and is best enjoyed fresh after the chocolate has set, though it can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
Sharing the mix in small baggies is a common way to gift or distribute servings thoughtfully.
Ingredients
- 6 cups Chex cereal
- 3 cups Cheerios
- 2 cups mini pretzels twists
- 1 cup peanut salted, roasted
- 10 oz. M&M’s candy Valentine’s Day
- 20 oz. white chocolate chips melting
- 4 tablespoons Sprinkles Valentine’s Day
- 7 oz. red velvet cookies shortbread type
Instructions
- Toss together the chex cereal, cheerios, pretzel twists, peanuts and Valentine’s Day M&M’s in an extra large mixing bowl.
- Pour the mix onto a large rimmed baking sheet.
- Melt the white chocolate melting chips. Place the chips in a microwave safe-bowl and heat on high power for 60 seconds. Stir well to finish melting and smoothing out the chocolate. (If any large chunks remain, melt for another 15 seconds and stir, stir, stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Keep an eye on it because white chocolate burns easily.)
- Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the cereal mixture immediately.
- Sprinkle the sprinkles on top of the white chocolate to ensure they stick properly.
- Use a spoon, rubber spatula or clean hands to mix and toss the mixture to evenly distribute the white chocolate before it sets. Work quickly because the chocolate sets up faster than you might imagine.
- Let the mixture rest for 15-30 minutes so that the white chocolate can finish cooling and setting.
- Use your hands to break up any large chunks of the mixture.
- Add the cookies into the mixture, placing them sporadically throughout. You can stir gently to combine, but keep in mind that the cookies can and will crumble if you're too rough with them.
- Transfer to a large serving bowl, and enjoy!
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
- For gifting, portion into 1-2 cup servings and package in small bags, optionally decorated for Valentine’s Day.
- Chex can be a mix of rice, corn, or one variety; Cheerios may be regular or honey nut as preferred.
- Pretzel shapes can be twists or rods depending on availability.
- Heart-shaped cookies other than red velvet may substitute for variation.
- Sprinkles should be added immediately after drizzling white chocolate to help them adhere before the chocolate sets.
- Toss or mix the melted white chocolate into the cereal mixture quickly on a large tray to distribute evenly before it hardens.
