Vegan Chocolate Sauce & Syrup

This vegan chocolate sauce is made from cocoa powder, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and oat milk, creating a creamy and versatile topping. It thickens gently when simmered, yielding a smooth texture that can be served warm, at room temperature, or chilled for a spreadable consistency. Its plant-based ingredients make it suitable for various dietary preferences.

Description

The Vegan Chocolate Sauce & Syrup combines cocoa powder and vanilla extract with maple syrup and oat milk to form a rich and creamy chocolate topping. Cooking it over low heat until thick ensures a velvety texture that coats desserts or breakfasts nicely. Maple syrup provides natural sweetness and depth, while oat milk contributes to the smooth, dairy-free base.

This sauce can be poured warm over pancakes or ice cream, stirred into beverages, or kept chilled as a spread. Its flexibility means it adapts well to different serving temperatures and uses depending on preference. The recipe is simple and requires minimal ingredients to achieve a satisfying chocolate flavor without dairy.

Leftover sauce keeps well refrigerated for up to a week and freezes easily for longer storage. The oat milk can be homemade or purchased, with a note that blending time affects texture. These details help maintain the sauce's quality and consistency for future enjoyment.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons maple syrup Note: 6 tablespoon is ¼ cup + 2 Tbsp; for a double batch you'll need ¾ cup.
  • 6 tablespoons oat milk See Notes for homemade, homemade or store-bought

Instructions

  1. In a small sauce pan whisk together the cocoa powder, vanilla, maple syrup, and oat milk.
  2. Bring to a simmer and cook over low heat for 2 minutes, or until thick and creamy.
  3. Serve the chocolate sauce warm or at room temperature. It's delicious both ways. We also enjoy it straight from the fridge when it's thick and spreadable.

Notes

  • Store leftover chocolate sauce in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • This sauce freezes well and thaws quickly for convenient use later.
  • For homemade oat milk, blend rolled oats with cold water briefly to avoid excessive sliminess, then strain through cheesecloth or a nut milk bag.
  • Shake homemade oat milk before use and refrigerate for no more than three days.
