Vegan Vanilla Frosting - 3 Ingredients!

This vegan vanilla frosting uses just three ingredients: chilled coconut milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. The recipe relies on the hardened coconut cream from the can, whipped until light and fluffy, to create a smooth frosting ideal for cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. It offers a dairy-free alternative with a subtly sweet, creamy texture that holds well when chilled.

Description

Get the Recipe: Vegan Vanilla Frosting brings together chilled coconut cream, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to make a dairy-free frosting that is simple yet effective. The chilled coconut milk separates naturally in the can, with the solid cream collected and whipped to achieve a fluffy texture that mimics traditional buttercream. Maple syrup adds gentle sweetness while the vanilla extract provides a classic aromatic note.

The method involves scooping the hardened coconut cream from the top of a well-chilled coconut milk can, discarding or reserving the remaining liquid. Then, the cream is whipped with the syrup and vanilla until it becomes airy and stable. This frosting can be piped onto cupcakes, cakes, or cookies for a vegan-friendly, creamy topping.

This frosting is best used fresh and kept chilled to maintain its structure. Its subtle coconut flavor pairs well with a variety of baked goods, especially those that complement vanilla tones. Using chilled coconut milk is essential for whipping success.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 can coconut milk chilled
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. First, use a can of coconut milk that is completely chilled.
  2. Open can of coconut milk. Using a spoon, scoop out the hardened part on top. Discard or reuse liquid on bottom of can.
  3. Next, add hardened milk, maple syrup and vanilla extract to a stand mixer. Whip on medium/high for 1 to 2 minutes or until light and fluffy.
  4. Finally, add to piping bag and frost cake, cupcakes or cookies!

Notes

  • Ensure the coconut milk is thoroughly chilled to separate cream properly.
  • Use only the solid cream on top for whipping; discard or save the liquid portion separately.
  • Whip until the frosting is light and fluffy for best texture.
  • This quantity will frost about 8 to 10 cupcakes, cookies, or a small cake.
