Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich
Description
The dessert is assembled by spreading slightly thawed vanilla ice cream onto one waffle, topping it with a second waffle, and pressing lightly to form a sandwich. The sides are then pressed into colored sprinkles for added texture and visual appeal. These sandwiches are frozen for several hours to firm up, making them easier to slice and serve.
Waffles can be made from scratch using a batter of flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter, cooked in a waffle iron and cooled completely before use. Alternatively, frozen waffles can be used directly without thawing. The cinnamon and buttermilk give the waffles a flavorful, tender crumb that complements the creamy ice cream well.
Waffle Ice Cream Sandwiches make a playful treat that can be prepared ahead and stored wrapped individually for freshness. Using an offset spatula helps spread softened ice cream evenly. The contrast between the crisp waffle exterior and smooth ice cream center offers a balanced texture and taste experience that serves well as an after-meal dessert or a treat on warm days.
