Watermelon Ginger Spritzer
Description
This spritzer blends cubed seedless watermelon pureed smoothly, strained to remove solids, with fragrant ginger syrup and freshly squeezed lime juice. The addition of cold sparkling water adds effervescence, producing a light, bubbly texture. The ginger syrup contributes a gentle spicy sweetness that complements the juicy watermelon and tart lime.
The lively combination yields a bright, thirst-quenching drink with layers of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. It is served over ice, often garnished with a mint sprig to add a fresh aroma and appeal.
While the recipe calls for homemade ginger syrup, store-bought options are acceptable for convenience. The spritzer can be easily adapted by adding vodka, transforming it into a refreshing cocktail. Its balance of natural fruit flavors and gentle fizz makes it a pleasant choice for warm weather or casual refreshment.
Ingredients
- 6 cups watermelon cubed, seedless
- 1/2 cup ginger syrup
- 1 cup lime juice freshly squeezed
- 1 cup water cold sparkling
Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish
Ice cubes, for serving
Instructions
- Place cubed watermelon in a blender, and process until smooth, working in batches if needed. Pour mixture through a strainer into a large, clean pitcher. Discard any solids caught in the strainer.
- Add Ginger Syrup and lime juice, stirring to combine. Sample the mixture, and add more Ginger Syrup or lime juice to taste (if needed). Stir in the sparkling water. To serve, pour into a short glass over ice, and garnish with a sprig of mint. Want to make this a boozy spritzer? Just add vodka!
Notes
- Store-bought ginger syrup can be used as a substitute for homemade syrup when preferred or for time-saving.
