White Bean Chili with Turkey
Description
This chili starts by sautéing diced onions until lightly browned, building a subtle sweetness. Ground spices including chili powder and cumin are added with garlic and oregano, blending into the onions to form a fragrant base. Great northern beans and broth are added and simmered to marry flavors, then chopped cooked turkey is stirred in and heated through. Finally, fresh diced tomatoes and chopped cilantro are folded in off heat to add freshness and color.
The chili has a savory, mildly spiced flavor with a hearty texture from the beans and turkey. The broth softens with simmering to create a comforting stew-like consistency, complemented by the fresh crispness of tomato and cilantro alongside an optional squeeze of lime for brightness.
This dish can be served as a main course chili, suitable for cooler days or anytime a substantial bean and meat stew is desired. It can be paired with cornbread or crusty bread to soak up the flavorful broth.
Notes mention an option to make the chili creamier by blending a portion of the beans and broth before adding turkey, and that chicken can be used in place of turkey if desired.
