Yellow Rice
Description
This yellow rice combines basmati or jasmine rice with butter, chicken broth, turmeric, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a chicken bouillon cube. The butter coats the rice grains before cooking, adding a toasty note. Turmeric provides the distinctive golden hue and gentle earthiness.
The rice simmers covered to absorb the seasoned broth without stirring, yielding separate, fluffy grains. Removing the lid during cooking is discouraged to maintain proper moisture and texture.
After fluffing, the rice can be served alongside meats, vegetables, or in dishes that benefit from a mildly spiced rice base. It’s suitable for meal prep as leftovers keep up to five days chilled or can be frozen for longer storage.
Rinsing the rice before cooking removes excess starch and debris, helping to achieve a fluffier outcome.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup butter unsalted
- 2 cups basmati rice or jasmine rice, rinsed and drained
- 4 cups chicken broth low sodium
- 2 teaspoons Turmeric
- 1 cube chicken bouillon
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika sweet
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir in the rice to coat it well in the butter and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the chicken broth and the rest of the spices. Stir well and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the saucepan with a lid.
- Simmer the rice for about 15 minutes until the rice is fully cooked. Do not open the lid to stir.
- Fluff with a fork and serve.
Notes
- Rinse the rice thoroughly under cool running water before cooking to remove excess starch.
- Sautéing the rice in butter before adding broth adds a toasty flavor and improves texture.
- Do not remove the lid during cooking, as this interrupts the steaming process essential for properly cooked rice.
- Leftover yellow rice can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months in an airtight container.
