10-Minute BBQ Chicken Wrap
Description
The 10-Minute BBQ Chicken Wrap features a flour tortilla filled with barbecue sauce-coated chicken pieces, shredded cheddar cheese, and crisp red onion slices, with optional fresh spinach and mayonnaise. Wrapping the ingredients together and cooking the sealed wrap in a skillet creates a lightly toasted outer layer while warming the filling and melting the cheese. The gentle browning adds texture contrasts between a golden crust and the tender, flavorful inside.
The balance of smoky barbecue sauce, sharp cheddar, and mild heat from the red onion makes for a satisfying handheld meal. The option to include fresh spinach adds a bright, leafy component. Because the wrap can be eaten cold or reheated, it is versatile for packed lunches or quick snacks, offering flexibility in serving preferences.
This recipe can be customized with different types of cooked chicken, such as leftover grilled or rotisserie chicken, or prepared in an air fryer for added convenience. The wrap’s assembly and quick cook time make it suitable for busy days when a tasty, filling meal is desired without extensive preparation.
Ingredients
- 1 inch wrap or flour tortilla
- 1 Tbsp barbecue sauce 15g
- 3 Tbsp cheddar cheese thick shredded, 21g
- 1 chicken breast chopped, or any leftover grilled chicken you have, or rotisserie, Air Fryer BBQ style
- 2 Tbsp red onion thin slices or diced
- handful of spinach optional, fresh
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise optional, light
Instructions
- Add the BBQ sauce and mayo (if using) in a line down the middle of the tortilla.
- Then add the shredded cheese, chopped BBQ chicken, red onion and spinach. Tuck sides in and roll up like a wrap.
- Spray a skillet with cooking spray (or add a little oil) and set to medium-high heat. When hot, add the wrap seam-side down and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
Notes
- Substitute a gluten-free wrap to make the recipe gluten-free.
- Use dairy-free cheese or omit cheese to make the wrap dairy-free.
- Enjoy the wrap hot fresh from the skillet or cold for a convenient packed lunch.
- If preparing in advance, add fresh spinach just before serving to maintain its texture and freshness.
- Consume prepared wraps within 1-2 days for the best quality when including fresh greens.
