15-Minute Fried Chickpeas

With just a few ingredients, you can make these crispy fried chickpeas tossed in a finger-licking good seasoning blend at home. They come together in under 15 minutes and have the same delicious flavor as your favorite seasoned fries (but with the added benefits of chickpeas that require no prep work and add a little protein)!

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 oz can chickpeas drained, 425 g
  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil 30 mL
  • 1 tsp garlic powder each
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Dry: Drain the 1 15-oz can chickpeas then dry them well using either a few layers of paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. The dryer they are, the crispier they'll get!
  2. Fry: Heat 2 Tbsp coconut oil in a large saute pan over medium/high heat. Add the dried chickpeas, ensuring they're in a single layer in the pan. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes, jostling the pan often, until chickpeas are crispy and golden brown.
  3. Flavor: Stir together 1 tsp each garlic powder, smoked paprika, sweet paprika and ½ tsp salt. Add spice mixture to the chickpeas and stir to evenly coat. Remove from heat, let cool slightly, and enjoy!

Notes

  • More Flavor Options: While I love the flavor option listed in this recipe, you can also use any of the 8 flavors we have in this roasted chickpea recipe!
  • Can these be made in the oven? Frying isn't really possible in the oven, but roasting is! If you'd like roasted chickpeas that are also super crispy, check out my recipe for tahini roasted chickpeas!
  • Storage: Fried chickpeas can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container. This is one of the reasons I love them – you can make a large batch and just use them as needed!
