2-Ingredient Homemade Dog Treats
Description
2-Ingredient Homemade Dog Treats are made by combining whole wheat flour with sweet potato puree to form a dough. If too stiff, a small amount of water can be added. The dough is rolled to half an inch thickness and cut into biscuits. Baking at 350°F for 20–25 minutes yields golden, slightly crisp dog treats. Using whole wheat flour provides some fiber, while sweet potato adds natural sweetness and moisture.
The texture is firm but not hard, suitable for dogs to chew. The simplicity of ingredients allows for easy preparation and ingredient substitution if needed. The treats can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature or frozen for longer storage.
These homemade treats can be made in various shapes using different cookie cutters. For dogs with gluten sensitivity, the whole wheat flour can be swapped for gluten-free all-purpose flour or oat or brown rice flour, though baking times and texture may vary.
Ingredients
- 2 Cups whole wheat flour
- 8 oz. sweet potato puree
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and coat a baking sheet with non-stick spray.
- Whisk together whole wheat flour and sweet potato in a large bowl. If the mixture is too thick to stir, add up to a Tablespoon of water.
- On lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/2" thickness. Use a cookie cutter to create biscuits.
- Place the biscuits on your prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
- Store in airtight bag or container.
Notes
- Yield depends on the size of the cookie cutter; using small shapes can yield over 50 biscuits.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
- For dogs with gluten sensitivity, substitute whole wheat flour with gluten-free flour such as all-purpose gluten-free, oat flour, or brown rice flour, noting that baking times and texture may vary.
