3-Ingredient Chocolate Banana Ice Cream (Vegan, Paleo)

This three-ingredient chocolate banana ice cream blends frozen ripe bananas with raw cacao powder and coconut milk to create a creamy, dairy-free dessert. The frozen bananas give a naturally sweet, smooth base while the cacao powder adds deep chocolate flavor. The coconut milk adjusts texture, creating a scoopable ice cream that's vegan and paleo-friendly. It can be enjoyed immediately as soft serve or frozen for firmer slices.

Description

The recipe uses only frozen ripe bananas, raw cacao powder, and coconut milk to create a chocolate ice cream alternative without dairy. The frozen bananas provide natural sweetness and thickness, while the cacao powder supplies rich chocolate taste. Coconut milk, added as needed, helps blend the ingredients into a creamy, smooth consistency.

The mixture is processed in a high-speed blender or food processor, gradually increasing speed to achieve a uniform texture free of banana chunks. This technique produces a dessert reminiscent of traditional chocolate ice cream but excluding sugar or dairy ingredients.

You can serve it immediately for a soft-serve experience or transfer it to a freezer-safe container and chill until firm. Before serving after freezing, let it thaw slightly for easier scooping. This dessert is a straightforward and wholesome option for those following vegan or paleo diets.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 banana frozen, large, ripe
  • ⅓ to 1/2 cup coconut milk as needed, full-fat, canned
  • 1/3 cup raw cacao powder
  • sea salt optional, tiny pinch

Instructions

  1. Add everything to a high-powered blender or food processor and secure the lid.
  2. First blend on a lower speed to get everything to chop up and then blend on a high (to highest) speed, using your tamper (if you have a blender) to help mash everything to the blade for easy blending. Do this until the chocolate ice cream is completely combined, creamy, and there are no more chunks of banana.
  3. Either serve immediately for soft serve consistency or transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container and freeze until completely set up.
  4. When you’re ready to enjoy the ice cream, thaw it for a couple of minutes, scoop, and enjoy!
