30 Minute Dinner Rolls

These 30 Minute Dinner Rolls are quick yeast rolls made from a simple dough of warm water, vegetable oil, yeast, sugar, salt, egg, and bread flour. The dough is mixed, divided, and given a brief rise before baking to golden tops in a 400°F oven. Brushing the finished rolls with melted butter adds a soft sheen and flavor. The result is a batch of tender, lightly golden rolls ready for serving in under an hour.

Description

The recipe activates yeast in warm water with sugar, then combines the mixture with oil, salt, egg, and flour to form a slightly sticky dough. Using a stand mixer with a dough hook ensures thorough mixing and development. The dough is shaped into 12 rolls, allowed a short 10-minute rise directly on a greased baking dish, which speeds up preparation by skipping a lengthy proofing phase.

Baking at a high temperature quickly produces rolls with soft interiors and lightly browned exteriors. A butter brush finish while warm enhances the flavor and adds moisture to the crust. The rolls are suited for quick weeknight dinners or alongside soups and salads.

Storing these rolls in a sealed container keeps them fresh for several days. The short rise method means the texture is tender but may not have the depth of flavor from a longer fermentation.

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour

Instructions

  2. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup and 2 Tablespoons of warm water, oil, yeast and sugar; let rest for 5-10 minutes.
  3. With a stand mixer and dough hook, mix in salt, egg and 2 cups of flour until combined. Add remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time (dough will be a bit sticky).
