5-Minute Harissa Tahini Sauce
Description
The sauce combines tahini, lemon juice, and harissa sauce into a smooth blend, seasoned with smoked paprika and sea salt. Gradual addition of water adjusts the consistency to a creamy, pourable texture suitable for dressings or dips. The flavor highlights nutty tahini enriched with a mild smoky heat from harissa and paprika, balanced by lemon's brightness. It can be made quickly without cooking, ideal for enhancing a variety of dishes.
This sauce pairs well with crispy cauliflower, roasted vegetables, nourish bowls, fries, or tacos, adding spice and creaminess. It keeps refrigerated for up to 5 days, and may be thinned with water after chilling. Leftover harissa sauce used in the recipe can also be saved for other uses, including eggs, pasta, or shakshuka, or frozen for future use.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 3 Tbsp lemon juice plus more as needed
- 2 Tbsp harissa sauce NOT paste // we used Mina harissa mild
- 1/4 - 1/2 tsp salt sea salt
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 cup water (plus more as needed)
Instructions
- To a small bowl, add all ingredients except water (so tahini, lemon juice, harissa sauce, salt, and smoked paprika) and whisk to combine.
- Add water a little at a time, continuing to whisk until you have a creamy, pourable sauce. Taste and adjust as needed, adding more lemon juice for tang, paprika for smokiness, harissa for mild heat, and sea salt for overall flavor.
- Serve over our quick crispy cauliflower, roasted vegetables, nourish bowls, sweet potato fries, or tacos.
- Leftovers will keep in a sealed container for up to 4-5 days. After refrigerating, thin with water as needed. Not freezer friendly.
Notes
- The recipe yields approximately 3/4 cup of sauce.
- Adjust salt and harissa quantity to taste, especially if using a spicier harissa sauce.
- Leftover harissa sauce can be used for eggs, pasta, or in shakshuka, and can be frozen in ice cube trays for later use.
- The sauce keeps well refrigerated for 4-5 days; whisk in water after chilling to restore desired consistency.
