Cream of Chicken Soup (Condensed)
Description
Cream of Chicken Soup (Condensed) creates a rich and creamy base through the combination of chicken broth and milk thickened with flour. The chicken broth simmered with chicken pieces infuses the base with protein and poultry flavor, while celery salt, white pepper, and onion powder add mild savory notes without overpowering the palate. The gradual addition of the milk and seasoning mixture into the simmering broth allows the flour to activate as a thickener, resulting in the familiar slightly gravy-like consistency used in many classic dishes. This recipe does not rely on canned soups, giving control over the ingredients and flavor intensity.
The texture achieved is smooth and thick, suitable for dilution or baking into casseroles. With its straightforward ingredient list, this condensed soup can be customized by adjusting seasoning levels or substituting milk types if desired. After cooking, discarding the chicken carcass (if used) ensures no bone or grit remains.
This homemade condensed cream of chicken soup serves as a versatile pantry staple for those looking to avoid store-bought canned versions. It can be incorporated into sauces, soups, or baked dishes where a creamy chicken flavor is needed without excess preservatives.
