7 Layer Salad
Description
This 7 Layer Salad features layers beginning with chopped iceberg lettuce as a crisp base, followed by fresh tomatoes, thawed peas, diced green or red onions, and chopped hard-boiled eggs for protein and richness. A mixture of mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, and seasoned salt is spread over the top layer to bind flavors and add moisture.
Before serving, shredded cheddar cheese and crispy bacon bits are sprinkled on top, adding sharpness and a savory contrast. The salad is chilled for several hours or overnight to meld flavors without losing the distinct layers, resulting in a colorful dish with contrasting textures from crunchy vegetables, creamy dressing, tender eggs, and crisp bacon.
Optional variations include using a ranch-style dressing with herbs and garlic or substituting other vegetables such as bell peppers, corn, or shredded carrots based on preference or what is available. For make-ahead convenience, assemble all but the cheese and bacon and add them just before serving.
