Description

In the air fryer, slices are cooked at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, turned and flattened multiple times to promote crispness without burning. Alternatively, they can be baked more slowly at 225°F for 45-60 minutes until dried and edges curl.

The resulting chips are lightly crisp with some chew upon removal but fully crisp after cooling. The cinnamon adds a warm aroma and flavor that complements the fruity sweetness of the apples without overpowering them.

Instructions

Air Fryer version:

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350 degres F / 180 degrees C.
  2. Thinly slice the apple using either a mandolin or a sharp knife.
  3. Add apple slices to a bowl and combine with cinnamon.
  4. Transfer half of the spiced apple slices to the air fryer basket, arranging in a single layer.
  5. Cook for 8-10 minutes, turning and flattening them at least 2 times during the cooking process.
  6. Remove the cooked apple chips, and then repeat the process with the rest of the apple slices.

Oven version:

  1. Preheat oven to 225 degrees F / 110 degrees C.
  2. Thinly slice the apple using either a mandolin or a sharp knife.
  3. Add apple slices to a bowl and combine with cinnamon.
  4. Arrange slices in a single layer on a metal baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 45-60 minutes, until the apple chips are dried and edges curl up.
  6. Using a spatula, transfer onto a wire rack until fully cooled and crispy.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline or very sharp knife to cut apple slices evenly to promote uniform cooking.
  • Avoid slicing too thin to prevent burning before crisping; group slices by thickness and cook accordingly.
  • Remove slices that cook faster early to prevent overcooking others.
