Air Fryer Apple Chips

Air Fryer Apple Chips are thinly sliced apples seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, optional brown sugar, and a pinch of salt, then crisped in an air fryer at 350°F. The process requires turning and flattening slices during cooking for even crispness. The result is a lightweight, crunchy snack with warm spices and the natural apple sweetness concentrated.

Description

To make Air Fryer Apple Chips, apples such as Granny Smith are sliced very thinly, then tossed with ground cinnamon, nutmeg, a pinch of salt, and optionally brown sugar for mild sweetness. The slices are arranged in a single layer in the air fryer basket to prevent sticking or overlapping, which helps them crisp evenly.

Cooking at 350°F for about 8-12 minutes with occasional turning and flattening produces chips that are crispy yet retain the apple's natural flavor. Cooling on a wire rack prevents sogginess. The spices add warmth and complexity to the tartness of the apples.

This recipe delivers an easy homemade snack that captures apple pie flavors in a crispy, portable form without frying or baking.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 apple I used Granny Smith
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar optional
  • Pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F.
  2. Using a very sharp knife, or a mandolin thinly slice the apples.
  3. Add them to a large bowl and add cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and salt. Toss to combine.
  4. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, make sure the slices do not touch each other. If you have a small trivet on hand, place it on top of the slices so they do not fly in the air fryer.
  5. Cook for 8-12 minutes, turning and flattening them at least 2 times during the cooking process. Cook until crisp.
  6. Remove the apple chips and place them on a wire rack to cool.
  7. Repeat with the rest of the apple slices.
