Air Fryer Asparagus
Description
To prepare Air Fryer Asparagus, fresh asparagus is trimmed to remove woody ends and lightly coated with canola or another neutral oil. The spears are arranged mostly in a single layer in the air fryer basket to maximize crispness, though some overlap is acceptable since the basket will be shaken halfway through cooking.
The asparagus cooks at 400°F (200°C) for about seven minutes, resulting in veggies that are tender but still retain slight crispness and a gentle browning on the surface. This quick roasting method intensifies the asparagus's flavor without softening it too much.
The cooked asparagus can be served simply with a squeeze of lemon juice and a seasoning of salt and black pepper or garnished with options such as shredded Parmesan, balsamic glaze, or various seasoning blends. It pairs well with a variety of meals from breakfast to dinner.
Cooking times may vary based on asparagus thickness and air fryer model. Checking after 7 minutes and adjusting cooking time ensures the desired doneness without burning. Preheating the air fryer helps achieve better crispness.
Ingredients
- 1 lb asparagus 450g; fresh
- 2 teaspoons canola oil or olive or vegetable oil
To serve (optional)
- lemon juice
- salt
- black pepper
Instructions
- Heat the air fryer to 400°F / 200°C.
- Trim the woody firm ends off the asparagus. Toss them in the oil (or rub the oil onto them with your hands.
- Place the asparagus into the basket of the air fryer. Ideally in a single layer, but it’s okay if they are stacked a little since you’ll be shaking the basket during cooking.
- Cook for 7 minutes, shaking once halfway through.
- Check and cook for longer if necessary due to the thickness of your asparagus. You want the asparagus to darken slightly, but not burn.
- Serve dressed simply with a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkling of salt and pepper, if desired, or try the optional toppings mentioned above.
Notes
- Preheat the air fryer to ensure asparagus cooks evenly and crisps properly.
- Check asparagus after 7 minutes to adjust cooking time based on thickness and air fryer model.
- Arrange asparagus mostly in a single layer to avoid steaming and encourage roasting.
- Try toppings like shredded Parmesan, balsamic glaze, or seasoning blends to vary flavor.
- Serve with a poached egg or as a side for robust mains like mushroom dishes.
