Air Fryer Baby Potatoes
Description
This recipe calls for washing and drying whole baby potatoes to ensure crispness during air frying. Coated evenly with olive oil and kosher salt, the potatoes cook in the air fryer at 400°F, shaken halfway through for uniform color and texture. Testing doneness with a fork assures the potatoes are soft inside while retaining a crisp skin.
Fresh herbs can be tossed with the potatoes after cooking for added fragrance and taste. This snack or side dish is satisfying due to its balance of crunchy exterior and creamy interior, and the air fryer method reduces the need for excessive oil while maintaining texture.
The recipe notes emphasize adjusting salt according to taste and type, suggesting less if table salt is used. Potatoes can be cooked longer if needed, checked in short intervals for perfect texture.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds baby potatoes whole
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1 - 4 teaspoons kosher salt depending on preference (see notes)
- fresh herbs thyme, rosemary or sage, optional
Instructions
- Wash and dry the potatoes. Make sure they are dry so that the skins get crispy.
- Put the potatoes in a bowl and drizzle with the olive oil. Stir to coat the skins with oil. Add the salt and stir again.
- Put the potatoes in the air fryer, making sure not to crowd the basket. Set it for 400 degrees F and cook for 14 minutes. Halfway through pull the basket out and shake to redistribute the potatoes.
- Test the potatoes by inserting a fork into one of the larger ones. They are done when the fork goes in easily.
- Cooking time will vary depending on what size your potatoes actually are. If they need more time cook them longer, testing every 3 minutes.
- Toss with fresh herbs before serving if desired.
Notes
- Adjust the salt amount according to your preference; 4 teaspoons kosher salt are used for a saltier flavor while less is recommended if using table salt.
- Ensure potatoes are fully dry before air frying to achieve crispy skins.
- If potatoes are not done after the initial cooking time, continue cooking in 3-minute increments until tender.
