Air Fryer Bacon

Thick-cut bacon cooked in an air fryer develops crispness without the need for flipping during cooking. The bacon is laid in a single layer with minimal overlap and cooked at high heat, allowing fat to render evenly. This method produces crisp, evenly cooked bacon with reduced mess and effort compared to stovetop or oven methods.

Description

Air Fryer Bacon involves arranging strips of thick-cut bacon in the air fryer basket without significant overlap to ensure even cooking. The air fryer is set to 390°F, and bacon cooks for about 10 minutes, with doneness checked around 7 to 8 minutes. The bacon crisps as the rendered fat drains away, and no flipping is required. The cooking time may vary depending on bacon thickness and desired crispness.

Between batches, excess grease can be drained from the air fryer to reduce smoke and keep cooking efficient. Techniques such as placing a slice of bread under the basket or lining the basket with a paper towel can absorb grease and minimize smoke. Leftover cooked bacon can be kept warm in the oven while finishing multiple batches. This method offers a convenient way to cook bacon with less hands-on attention and cleanup.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 oz Bacon thick cut

Instructions

  1. Place a layer of bacon in the air fryer basket making sure not to overlap.
  2. Set the Air Fryer to 390 degrees.
  3. Cook bacon for 10 minutes. Check at the 7-8 minute mark for doneness. Depending on the thickness of bacon and how crispy you like your bacon will vary the cooking time.
  4. When time is done and bacon is cooked to desired doneness remove from the Air Fryer and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain grease.
  5. Repeat with remaining bacon.

Notes

  • Cook bacon in batches if needed, placing strips in a single layer to avoid uneven cooking.
  • Do not overlap strips excessively; some slight overlap is acceptable as bacon will shrink.
  • Check bacon around 7-8 minutes for preferred crispness; total cooking time varies with thickness.
  • Drain excess grease between batches to reduce smoke and improve cooking conditions.
  • Placing bread under the air fryer basket or lining it with paper towel can help absorb grease and minimize smoke.
  • You can keep cooked bacon warm in the oven while completing other batches.
  • Frozen bacon has not been tested with this method; fresh bacon is recommended for consistent results.
