Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
Description
This recipe starts by trimming asparagus spears to uniform length and grouping 3 to 4 together, each bundle wrapped in a slice of raw bacon. The bundles are placed in the air fryer basket, seasoned with garlic powder and black pepper. Cooking at 400°F for 12 to 15 minutes crisps the bacon while allowing the asparagus to stay tender yet slightly firm.
Serving options include sprinkling with additional seasonings like onion powder or Parmesan cheese after cooking, and there's room to experiment with turkey bacon or sweet and spicy accents such as brown sugar, maple syrup, or cayenne pepper. Resting the cooked bundles briefly on paper towels allows excess grease to drain.
The recipe adapts well to various bacon types and flavorings, letting cooks tailor the texture and spice level. Using parchment liners in the air fryer basket eases cleanup, and checking doneness starting at 10 minutes helps prevent overcooking given different air fryer models.
Ingredients
- 30-40 pears asparagus 2 bunches
- 1 pound Bacon
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Trim about an inch off the end of each asparagus spear so they are the same length.
- Group 3 or 4 spears together and wrap each group in one slice of raw bacon around the center or the group. Leave both ends exposed.
- Place the wrapped spears in the air fryer basket and season with garlic and pepper. Use air fryer parchment paper liner if easy cleanup.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400° F and cook for 12-15 minutes. Times may vary depending on the air fryer and desired crispiness the bacon. Start checking at 10 minutes and shake the air fryer basket if desired.
- Remove the asparagus from the air fryer and place on a plate lined with paper towels. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes
Notes
- Turkey bacon or preferred bacon types can substitute the regular bacon here.
- Add onion powder alongside garlic powder for additional savory flavor.
- After cooking, sprinkle brown sugar or brush the bundles with maple syrup for a touch of sweetness.
- Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the bundles once cooked for a cheesy finish.
- For extra heat, add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes over the bacon before cooking.
