Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Brussels Sprouts
Description
This recipe features Brussels sprouts individually wrapped in bacon and sprinkled with brown sugar, then cooked in the air fryer until the bacon crisps and the sprouts become tender. The brown sugar adds a caramelized sweetness that complements the smoky, salty bacon and the slight bitterness of the Brussels sprouts.
Cooking in the air fryer at 375°F allows for even crisping without excess grease and a shorter cook time compared to oven baking. The bacon should be wrapped so the seam side is down to prevent unraveling. If using thick-cut bacon, it is recommended to partially cook it before wrapping.
These can be served as a flavorful side dish or appetizer. Preparation tips include trimming and halving larger sprouts, not overcrowding the air fryer basket for optimal airflow, and optionally baking in the oven if an air fryer is unavailable. Leftover sprouts can be stored refrigerated or frozen and reheated in the air fryer to restore crispness.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Bacon
- 1 ½ pounds Brussels sprouts
- ½ cup brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
- Wash & trim Brussels sprouts. If they are large, cut them in half.
- Cut each slice of bacon into thirds and wrap around a sprout.
- Line the basket with parchment paper (do not preheat with parchment paper). Place seam side down in the basket and sprinkle brown sugar on top. Repeat with remaining brussels & bacon.
- Bake 15 minutes or until bacon is crisp and brussels sprouts are tender.
Notes
- If you don't have an air fryer, bake in the oven at 425°F for 22-27 minutes for similar results.
- Do not preheat the air fryer with parchment paper as it may burn or blow around.
- Partially cook thick-cut bacon for 3-4 minutes before wrapping to ensure tenderness.
- Cut large Brussels sprouts in half for even cooking; frozen sprouts can be used but require longer cook time.
- Place bacon seam side down to prevent it from unwrapping during cooking.
- Do not crowd the basket; cook in batches for crispier results.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-5 days refrigerated or freeze for up to 3 months.
- Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 10 minutes or until heated through.
- Brussels sprouts can be prepared up to 48 hours in advance before cooking.
