Air Fryer Baked Potato Recipe
Description
This recipe uses whole russet potatoes that are cleaned, dried, pricked with a fork, coated with olive oil, and seasoned with sea salt. They are cooked in an air fryer at high temperature (400°F for basket-style or 375°F for toaster-style) for 35 to 45 minutes depending on size, flipped halfway for even cooking.
The air fryer crisps the skin while steaming and baking the inside until soft and easily pierced. The result is a fluffy interior contrasting with the salty, crispy skin. The cooking duration varies based on the weight of the potato, providing specific time guidance for potatoes between 7 and 9 ounces.
Air-fried baked potatoes are versatile and can be served as a side or loaded with toppings to create a main dish. Their skin holds well for scooping and supports various fillings for different meals.
Leftover potatoes should be cooled and stored in the refrigerator covered, lasting 3-5 days, or frozen individually wrapped for up to 3 months. Potatoes can be reheated directly in the air fryer or microwaved, though microwaving softens the skin.
Ingredients
- 4 russet potato 7-9 oz, medium
- ½ tsp sea salt or to taste
- 1 Tbsp olive oil or use a cooking spray
Instructions
- Scrub potatoes under running water then thoroughly dry with a towel.
- Poke the potato all over with a fork, 4-5 times, rub with oil and sprinkle all over with salt. Add the potatoes to the air fryer basket.
- Cook the potatoes in a Basket-style air fryer at 400°F or Toaster-Style Air Fryer at 375°F for 35-45 minutes, flipping halfway. Cook time will depend on the size of your potatoes. Air Fry until easily pierced with a knife. Use tongs to transfer potatoes to a plate.
Notes
- Adjust cooking time based on the size of potatoes: about 35 minutes for 7 oz, 40 minutes for 8 oz, and 45-50 minutes for 9 oz or larger.
- Store leftover potatoes in the refrigerator for 3-5 days or freeze individually wrapped for up to 3 months.
- Reheat potatoes in the air fryer at 400°F for best skin crispness, or microwave if preferred but skin will be less crispy.
